Guido van Rijn was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands on 11 April 1950. He studied English in Amsterdam and Leiden. In the sixties the American Folk Blues Festivals toured Europe and provided unique opportunities to hear the blues live. In 1970 he co-founded the Netherlands Blues and Boogie Organisation. The concerts that the NBBO organised culminated in the annual Utrecht Blues Estafette. Van Rijn published many articles in specialist magazines like "Blues Unlimited" and "Blues & Rhythm." From 1978 he produced seventeen LPs and CDs for his Agram Blues label:

His Ph. D. is from Leiden University and he works as a teacher of English at Kennemer Lyceum in Overveen. At present Guido van Rijn is working on companion volumes to "Roosevelt's Blues" in which the post-war Presidents from Truman to Clinton will be studied from the perspectives of the blues and gospel singers.
